Literature Text

March 5th, 1932.

Statement taken from Mrs. Jennifer Larsdel concerning the behaviour of her adoptive daughter, and suspect in the ongoing Merryvale case, Eleanor Larsdel.

"Stomping down the stairs in the middle of the night was the worst thing she ever did to us. Sure, occasionally she would talk in her outside voice during the later hours, and sometimes she would run around outside in the rain and mud and then track it all through the house, leaving it to become a dried and dirty mess in the morning, but those were all things Henry and I can deal with. It was the repeatedly traipsing up and down the stairs that annoyed us the most, and compared to some stories I've heard the others mothers tell it was really not that bad.

"I suppose you could say you never know, though, with these sorts of things. I once heard of a boy, proper as a newly pruned peach tree, who ended up murdering the family pet! Though whether it was a cat or a dog, I am not certain. But that is besides the point. We adopted Eleanor when she was eight and two-thirds, already able to think for herself, her biological mother having thrown her out at the tender age of two only to be sent to what could be referred to as "The worst orphanage in Great Britain"! Her demeanor was never particularly sweet, and she could be a pain at times, but I have enough pride in my parenting to be fairly sure that she did not commit this horrible crime you are so sure she is responsible for! No, she did not like that Merryvale girl, and yes, she does have some attitude issues, but murder is one thing I do not think she is capable of.

"If you do find her, please bring her home safely and soundly, just as you would with any other child who ran away from her parents. I'm certain that she has done nothing wrong. Save for scaring my husband and I, of course!"

Continuation of my attempt at a murder mystery told entirely in police reports and civilian or suspect statements.
